One thing that comes along with braces is soreness. Now, this isn’t a typical muscle soreness—it’s actually soreness in the teeth. This can be quite inconvenient and troublesome, but it’s a sign that your teeth are moving and that you’re on your way toward the beautiful smile you want! However, our orthodontist, Dr. Christopher Liang, and team still want you to have a pleasant orthodontic experience. So, we would be happy to give you the tips you need to relieve your sore teeth.
First, rinse with warm water and take pain medication. These things can help release any tension in the mouth that is making the soreness worse. So, feel free to rinse with warm water as much as you would like and take pain medication as necessary. The best pain medication to take includes Tylenol or ibuprofen.
Second, eat a soft diet. This is recommended because chewing hard foods could worsen the soreness. So, stick to eating soft, easy-to-eat foods, like yogurt and cottage cheese, for the first day or two after the adjustment appointment.
Third, use your teeth. Pretend your teeth are like a sore muscle. The more you use them, the less they will hurt. So, periodically chew on things throughout the day to keep your mouth from becoming stiff.
