Orthodontic Was Is a Handy Tool to Help Your Time in Braces Pass Smoothly

Posted .

Do you know how to utilize orthodontic wax to help your time in braces pass more smoothly? It might seem self-explanatory, but some people aren’t sure how to take advantage of this handy tool. If you are one of these people, our Liang Orthodontics orthodontic team is happy to help you! When placing your orthodontic wax, please follow these guidelines:

Wash your hands

Thoroughly wash your hands with warm water and antibacterial soap. Try to scrub for at least 20 seconds. You don’t want to introduce bacteria to your mouth when you place the wax, especially if you have a cut or sore.

Brush your teeth

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and brush your teeth before you place the wax. This will help you avoid trapping food particles and plaque under the wax. Trapping those substances could promote tooth decay and other dental issues. If anything, it’s best to at least clean the area where you’re planning on applying the wax.

Shape the wax

Take a small piece of wax and roll it into a small ball. You usually only want about a popcorn kernel-size of wax. Roll it into a ball for about five seconds. Your fingers will warm the wax to soften it and make it easier to place.

Place the wax

When you are ready, locate the sore and painful areas of your mouth. Then, place the wax over the bracket or wire that is causing the pain. Use your finger and roll over it a few times. This will make it stick into place. The wax should protrude a little bit, making a small bump.

If you follow these simple guidelines, you will be enjoying your smile in braces in no time!
